Our mission to achieve access to justice has long included working to dismantle institutional barriers to safe and healthy places for our clients to live. As a nation, we have far too often failed to live up to the ideal that “all [people] are created equal”.
The events of the past few months and, especially, the last few weeks, painfully paint how far we have to go to honor our collective humanity. As we grapple with the devastating effects of the global pandemic on our clients, our families and our communities, we also grieve the sudden and violent taking of the lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmad Arbery. These Black lives should still be with us today and we recognize them in the faces of our clients, our families, our neighbors, and ourselves.
As a legal services organization, we will steadfastly seek positive change for the communities we serve. We pledge to direct our actions against inequity with renewed passion. We look forward to working with you in pursuit of justice for all.
