The Public Law Center (PLC) recently received a $175,000 Weingart Foundation grant to strengthen its free legal services for low-income Orange County residents in areas like citizenship, veterans, and housing.

“We are so pleased the Weingart Foundation recognizes the need and value of strategically improving our ability to provide Orange County’s low-income residents with free legal help,” said PLC executive director and general counsel Kenneth Babcock. “We are extremely grateful to have this opportunity to help our clients lead more rewarding and productive lives through our community partnerships, like the Orange County Naturalization Initiative Collaborative.”

Ben and Stella Weingart established the Weingart Foundation in Southern California in 1951. It distributes grants to organizations dedicated to building better communities by helping people in need. PLC will also use the two-year grant to build the skills of its leadership team, as well as to bolster its communications and technological capabilities.

“It is very rewarding that the Weingart Foundation views PLC as an organization that fits its top priority, which is providing greater access to people who are economically disadvantaged and underserved,” said Julie McCoy, president of PLC’s board of directors.
