An Oscar-shortlisted documentary titled “The Facility,” uses footage from pay-per-minute video calls—including ones between PLC Directing Attorney Monica Glicken and her client—from a now shuttered ICE Detention Center to provide a glimpse of the horrors of life in ICE detention during the pandemic. Please tune in at 7pm PT on Sunday, January 23 to MSNBC to see the 26-minute film and an interview by Alicia Menendez. Can’t wait until Sunday night? The documentary is available to stream by clicking the image below.
The documentary focuses on the stories of two immigrants, PLC client Andrea Manrique and Nilson Barahona-Marriaga, who employ acts of civil disobedience, like hunger strikes, to fight for protections from COVID-19 and justice under U.S. law. We told part of Andrea’s story during the 2021 Volunteers for Justice Virtual Event when we honored O’Melveny’s Brandon Amash as our Attorney of the Year. Monica and Brandon continue to co-counsel on Andrea’s immigration case.
