Medical Legal Partnerships - Public Law Center

PLC partners with health care providers to improve the health of low-income patients by assisting with their legal problems. These partnerships are known as medical-legal partnerships (MLPs), two of which focus on specific at-risk populations:

People living with HIV/AIDS
Families with infants 6 months and younger

Services

AIDS Legal Assistance Project (ALAP)
- A partnership between PLC and Orange County Health Care Agency (OC HCA)
- Founded in 1993, ALAP is OC’s only legal services program dedicated to assisting low-income people living with HIV/AIDS
Holistic legal assistance provided to low-income OC residents living with HIV/AIDS
Developmental Understanding and Legal Collaboration for Everyone (DULCE)
- A partnership between PLC and CHOC Hospital
- Holistic legal assistance to low-income OC families with infants 6 months and younger
- Assistance with any issue within PLC’s scope of legal services
Hoag MLP
- A partnership between PLC and Hoag Hospital
- Biweekly legal clinics at the Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living in Newport Beach
- Assistance with family law matters
St. Joseph MLP
- A partnership between PLC and Providence/Mission/St. Joseph Hospital
- Weekly legal clinics from 12-8 pm at family resource centers (FRCs) in Lake Forest (SOC FRC) and San Juan Capistrano (CHEC FRC)
- Holistic legal assistance provided to low-income residents of South Orange County
- Assistance with any issue within PLC’s scope of legal services
