Advocacy & Impact Litigation

PLC seeks to effect broad-based, large-scale change in areas that impact the poor in Orange County.

AIDS Legal Assistance Project

PLC's AIDS Legal Assistance Project (ALAP) is Orange County's only legal service program dedicated to assisting low-income persons living with HIV or AIDS.

Bankruptcy

PLC educates clients about the impact of bankruptcy and the options available under the bankruptcy code, and is able to provide free assistance for clients facing burdensome consumer debts, through the use of volunteer attorneys, staff attorneys and clinics at PLC and the federal courthouse.

Civil Legal Assistance

PLC provides assistance with a wide array of civil legal issues involving discrimination, education, employment, health care and many other areas of civil law.

Community Organizations Legal Assistance Project

PLC’s Community Organizations Legal Assistance Project (COLAP) makes free legal services available to community-based nonprofit organizations and child care centers and providers. PLC will also help micro-business owners who meet certain eligibility criteria.

Consumer Law

PLC advises, provides brief services, and refers cases to our network of volunteer attorneys on a wide variety of issues including unfair sales practices, identity theft, creditor harassment and predatory lending.

Family Law Outreach

Public Law Center staff attorneys conduct educational presentations and legal outreach on most family law topics at homeless and domestic violence shelters and other family resource centers.

Foreclosure/Homeownership

PLC assists homeowners facing foreclosure on their primary residence, including resolving predatory lending issues, counseling clients on loan modifications and protecting clients from loan modification scams.

Homeless Advocacy Project

PLC's Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP) helps those who are currently homeless or at serious risk of becoming homeless, providing free legal assistance with family law, landlord-tenant disputes, consumer fraud, benefit payments, immigration, and more.

Housing Project

PLC works to preserve and create affordable housing in Orange County, prevent homelessness, and assist tenants who are being unfairly evicted or who are subjected to sub-standard living conditions.

Immigration Law Outreach

PLC assists undocumented immigrant victims in filing for various forms of immigration relief, engages in broad-based impact litigation, and provides community education on immigration issues.

SEALOP

PLC developed the South East Asian Legal Outreach Program (SEALOP) in 1993 to provide free civil legal assistance to the underserved Southeast Asian community in Orange County.
